Techserv began providing Charles Day Steel with gas cutting machines in 1996 and is now refurbishing the very same machines fifteen years later, proving that not only their working relationship is still going strong.

Continue reading »]]> Techserv Cutting Systems Ltd has created an ingenious plasma machine for cutting pipes which dramatically increases production for Flues & Flashings, a company that specialises in the production of ducting products for the domestic and commercial heating markets.

The plasma tube cutter is capable of cutting aluminium and stainless steel flue pipes at any angle, as well as holes of any shape or size, in a completely automated process.

Up until now, pipes have been cut using a multi-stage fabrication process. Cutting and assembling pieces for an elbow pipe, for example, typically took 15 minutes; using Techserv’s new plasma cutting machine, this process takes just four minutes, saving time, resources and money.

And using Techserv’s very own on-board PC-based CNC system, specifically for tube profile cutting application, ensures optimum cutting performance.

The performance of the plasma tube cutter is superb. Changing the process so that we are pre-forming the tubes before cutting them, instead of cutting complex shapes from flat metal sheets, has enabled us to virtually quadruple manufacturing throughput.

In fact, we were able to produce six months’ stock during the first two weeks of machine operation.

Techserv Cutting Systems Ltd of Yorkshire have recently installed four HS4000 plasma and gas cutting machines at the new JSW Severfield Structures Ltd (JSSL) plant in Bellary, India.

JSSL have recently announced massive investment to expand its Bellary unit.

The Techserv HS4000 CNC cutting machines are used in the fabsec lines (fabricated section) and parts shop, they were supplied with a combination of gas and plasma cutting heads.

Each machine has a work area of 4 metres wide x 25 metres long. The machines feature the Techserv PC based CNC control system. This powerful but easy to use system runs under Windows 7 and can be easily accessed from the UK should any software maintenance be required.

His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales recently opened the JCB Academy where he viewed many of the high-tec resources including the TechSoft PlasmaCUT designed and manufactured in the UK by Tecserv Cutting Systems. The PlasmaCUT is a plasma cutting machine designed to meet the need for metal profiling in education.

Engineering departments and specialist engineering schools will clearly be interested in the potential PlasmaCUT has to bring sheet metal cutting up to date with industry standardCAD/CAM techniques. More widely, many Design and Technology departments have found metalworking quite difficult to incorporate into schemes of work in recent years. PlasmaCUT will fit naturally alongside other CAD/CAMand ‘benchwork’ techniques, and has the power to revolutionise what studentsare able to do in their project work.

The JCB Academy is the first school of its kind in the UK for the education of 14 to 19-year-olds with a core focus on engineering and is designed to produce the engineers and business leaders of the future. The first 170 students began their studies in September last year and eventually it will house 540 students from Staffordshire and Derbyshire.

CNC Plasma Cutting equipment can play a number of important roles in educational departments and offers a route to deliver relevant Technology and ICT training across a number of Key Stages.

JCB Academy Officially Opened by Royal Couple

The £22 million JCB Academy was today officially opened by Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

The Royal couple visited the facility in Mill Street, Rocester where they met staff, students and supporters who have contributed to the success of The Academy.

The Prince of Wales, accompanied by JCB Chairman Sir Anthony Bamford and JCB Academy Principal Jim Wade was given an insight into the hi-tech resources available to the 170 Year 10 and Sixth Form students. During the visit he was presented with a memory stick which students had designed and manufactured and engraved with the initials ‘HRH’.

“Our hope is that the engineers and business leaders of the future – that our country so desperately needs to rebalance our economy – will pass through the doors of this historic building. As a nation that seems to have fallen out of love with manufacturing, I look upon The JCB Academy as a rebirth – or at least the beginnings of a rebirth – in technical education.

“We have high hopes for The JCB Academy. With the support of our partners, Rolls Royce, Toyota, Network Rail, Bentley and Bombardier, for example, we anticipate that the unique technical education it provides to 14-19- year-olds will be inspirational for young people, and be of great value to the national economy through the skills it will provide to our manufacturing and engineering companies.

“What started out as the vision of a few people, has now become a reality as a result of the hard work of many people, to whom I am very grateful for their continued support .”
